Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited about Star Wars VII, too. However, while I am only “excited” about the new Star Wars, Baahubali is something I cannot wait and gives me a thrill. I know, I know – probably I’m the only person in my country and even in Europe who feels like this. But that’s just because people haven’t heard of Baahubali yet.

So what on earth is Baahubali?

It’s one of the most grandiose and amazing project and journey I have ever seen. Basically it’s an upcoming two-part Indian epic film, set in a mythological time and place. Its director is S.S. Rajamouli, who is among the most outstanding directors of the Indian (and world) cinema. The principal photography started in 2013, preceded by 1-year pre-production (see later) and starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia (they’re the biggest names of Telugu and South Indian cinema).

As mentioned before, the story takes place in a mythological place, an Indian kingdom named Mahishmathi. Rajamouli and his crew worked out every details of Mahishmathi – the geography, history, economy, architecture of the kingdom, the Mahishmathi people and their look, costume, religion and eating habits. They literally made and entire kingdom just for the film. Here are the concept arts for Baahubali on DeviantArt: http://baahubali.deviantart.com/gallery/

They designed and made every weapon from the smallest daggers to the huge catapults, and composed the war and battle scenes just as Mozart composed his symphonies or an architect plans his buildings and park.
(A video on visualising the world of Baahubali – this 3-minutes short film itself deserves an award for its background music.)

And what is the release date of this amazing film?
Well, the first part – titled The Beginning – was originally scheduled for a 15 May release, but it was postponed to the summer. However, the theatrical trailer is to be unveiled on 31 May, and until that posters of the leading characters will be released – starting from today!

And what I like about Baahubali, in addition to the above, is the way the crew interacts with the fans – releasing making videos and concept arts, sharing photos from the sets, attending events where the fans can meet them, e.g. ComicCon and being active on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. (Oh, and the official page!)

So I am just sitting here waiting for Baahubali – and yay, Baahubali is coming!
