Misinterpretations of "Be yourself!"

We heard the saying "be yourself" come many times, that we do not even wonder about its importance. In many American films you can find the saying, but what do they suggest, how to make it happen?
In a common American film shot in  Hollywood you may come across only one solution.

People start to spend money on lot of things, like fashionable clothes and accessories, expensive books, enter a well-known university, or start to study something completely new. The outcome of this process is a successful person who is imcomperably happier this way. However if we dare to take a deeper look into it, we realize that this is a misinterpretation of "Be yourself!".

Why? Because besides it creates the most common "american dream", futhermore it forgets to concentrate on significantly important details.
To be yourself in reality - not necessarily, but in most cases - should be the opposite of "american dream".
You should be able to make your own decisions what you won't regret, you should always decide on the basis of your own opinion.
A person, who fulfilled to be him/herself should be able to decide what is wrong or good in a certain situation, because wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it, and right is right even if no one doing it.
In addition, who succeeded in being him/herself shouldn't wear the most fasionable clothes, listen to the most popular bands or song, choose series depending on its popularity because the majority of their acquaintance.
A person who is true to him/herself should stand up at speak him/her mind even if the others will surely disagree with it.

The term "Be yourself" ought mean that one doesn't feel like he/she worth less because they for instance like to go on an excursion, instead of shopping at shopping malls or going to expensive places.

From my point of view, a person's value is a question of how humane was he/she in his/her life. Did they make something to do this world even a little better for anyone?

Sayings like "be different, be yourself" are also misleading; they try to convience you to do something in an another way others would do, but the point in being yourself is that you listen to your own conscience and not to others suggestions.
